Overman Legal Group Review – Oklahoma City Criminal Defense, Business Law, DUI & Federal Crime Attorneys

Introduction

Overman Legal Group, found online at OvermanLegal.com, is an Oklahoma City law firm best known for its criminal defense and trial practice. The firm represents people facing everything from misdemeanor and DUI allegations to serious felony, drug trafficking, white-collar, federal, domestic violence, and homicide charges. At the same time, Overman Legal Group has developed a broader legal practice covering business law, family law, cannabis law, intellectual property, appellate matters, entertainment law, and selected real estate and construction disputes.

This makes Overman Legal Group different from a law office concentrating on only one narrow category of cases. Criminal defense is clearly at the center of the firm's identity, but individuals, entrepreneurs, companies, property owners, and professionals can also turn to its attorneys for selected civil and commercial legal matters.

The firm's approach is strongly litigation-oriented. Overman Legal Group emphasizes extensive trial experience and describes its attorneys as willing to take cases to verdict when necessary. For criminal defendants, this means the service can extend from evaluating charges and negotiating possible resolutions to preparing and presenting a defense at trial.

The firm is headquartered in Oklahoma City and states that its attorneys can pursue or defend cases throughout Oklahoma. It also emphasizes personalized representation, meaning legal strategies are intended to reflect the individual facts, risks, and objectives involved in each client's situation.

This Overman Legal Group review examines what the firm does, its primary legal services, and the types of clients who may benefit from its representation.

What Is Overman Legal Group?

Overman Legal Group, PLLC is an Oklahoma law firm with a particularly strong emphasis on criminal defense and business law.

Its advertised legal services include:

  • Criminal defense

  • Murder and manslaughter

  • Felonies and misdemeanors

  • Drug offenses

  • Drug trafficking and conspiracy

  • Criminal marijuana cases

  • DUI

  • Federal offenses

  • White-collar crime

  • Domestic violence

  • VPOs and expungements

  • Municipal cases

  • Appellate law

  • Cannabis law

  • Business law

  • Family law

  • Intellectual property

  • Entertainment law

  • Real estate and construction matters

The breadth of these services allows the firm to handle both high-stakes criminal proceedings and selected legal problems affecting businesses and individuals.

Oklahoma City Criminal Defense Services

Criminal defense is the foundation of Overman Legal Group's practice.

The firm represents people accused of crimes ranging from relatively routine misdemeanors to extremely serious felony offenses.

Being charged with a crime can create consequences extending beyond fines or incarceration. A criminal record can potentially affect employment, professional licensing, housing, education, reputation, and other aspects of a person's future.

Overman Legal Group's criminal defense attorneys work to analyze the allegations, examine available evidence, identify legal or constitutional issues, advise clients regarding their options, and develop a defense strategy.

Depending on the circumstances, representation may involve negotiating with prosecutors, filing motions, challenging evidence, seeking dismissal or reduction of charges, evaluating plea offers, or preparing the case for trial.

Felony and Misdemeanor Defense

Overman Legal Group specifically represents clients charged with both felonies and misdemeanors.

The firm states that its experience extends from misdemeanor possession cases to extremely serious felony charges such as murder.

Felonies generally expose defendants to more significant potential penalties than misdemeanors, making experienced defense representation particularly important.

A criminal defense attorney can review:

  • Police reports

  • Witness statements

  • Search and seizure issues

  • Physical evidence

  • Video evidence

  • Statements made to law enforcement

  • Prosecutorial evidence

  • Possible defenses

The objective is to understand both the strengths and weaknesses of the prosecution's case before deciding how to proceed.

Murder and Manslaughter Defense

One of Overman Legal Group's most serious practice areas involves murder and manslaughter charges.

Homicide cases can carry life-changing consequences and require extensive preparation.

These cases may involve forensic evidence, witness testimony, expert analysis, questions regarding intent, self-defense issues, and complicated factual disputes.

A law firm handling homicide cases must be prepared for substantial litigation and potentially lengthy jury trials.

Overman Legal Group's willingness to handle these high-stakes cases reflects the trial-focused nature of its criminal defense practice.

Drug Crime Defense

Drug offenses are another major service offered by Overman Legal Group.

The firm's criminal attorneys handle allegations involving:

  • Drug possession

  • Drug manufacturing

  • Drug distribution

  • Drug trafficking

  • Drug conspiracy

Drug prosecutions can involve both state and federal law depending on the allegations.

An attorney may examine how evidence was obtained, whether a search was lawful, who actually possessed or controlled the drugs, and whether prosecutors can establish the required elements of the alleged offense.

Drug Trafficking and Conspiracy

More serious drug cases can involve allegations of trafficking or participation in a criminal conspiracy.

These cases may involve multiple defendants, substantial quantities of controlled substances, financial evidence, communications records, and lengthy investigations.

They can also create federal exposure in appropriate circumstances.

Overman Legal Group specifically identifies drug trafficking and conspiracy as a practice area, making the firm potentially relevant to defendants facing more complicated drug prosecutions rather than only simple possession charges.

Criminal Marijuana Cases

Oklahoma has developed a substantial medical cannabis industry, but marijuana-related activity can still create criminal exposure when conduct falls outside applicable laws and regulations.

Overman Legal Group specifically handles criminal marijuana cases.

The firm's broader cannabis-law knowledge can be valuable because these matters may involve an intersection between criminal law and Oklahoma's regulatory framework.

DUI Defense

DUI is another important component of the firm's criminal practice.

Driving under the influence charges can potentially result in:

  • Criminal penalties

  • Fines

  • Probation

  • Driver's license consequences

  • Increased insurance costs

  • Employment problems

  • A criminal record

Overman Legal Group represents clients accused of DUI and works to protect their rights throughout the criminal process.

Potential defense issues can involve the legality of the traffic stop, police observations, chemical testing, field sobriety testing, and other evidence surrounding the arrest.

Federal Criminal Defense

Overman Legal Group also represents clients facing federal offenses.

Federal criminal proceedings differ in important ways from ordinary state prosecutions.

Federal investigations may involve agencies with significant investigative resources and cases developed over extended periods before charges are filed.

Potential federal matters can overlap with allegations involving drugs, financial crimes, conspiracy, and other serious offenses.

Federal defense therefore requires careful attention to procedural rules, evidence, potential sentencing consequences, and federal court practice.

White-Collar Crime

White-collar criminal defense is another significant service offered by Overman Legal Group.

These cases can involve allegations such as:

  • Fraud

  • Embezzlement

  • Financial misconduct

  • Other business-related criminal offenses

White-collar cases often rely heavily on financial records, emails, business documents, electronic communications, and complex transactions.

The firm's combination of criminal defense and business-law knowledge can be particularly relevant in cases where the alleged criminal activity is connected to corporate or financial operations.

Domestic Violence Defense

Overman Legal Group represents people accused of domestic violence offenses.

Domestic violence allegations can have consequences beyond the immediate criminal charge.

They can potentially affect family relationships, employment, firearm rights, reputation, and protective-order proceedings.

The firm emphasizes discreet but aggressive representation designed to protect the defendant's rights and future.

VPOs and Protective Orders

The firm's services also include Victim Protective Orders, commonly referred to as VPOs.

Protective-order proceedings can arise alongside domestic violence allegations or other interpersonal disputes.

The consequences of a VPO can be substantial, making legal representation important for individuals who need to understand or contest the allegations against them.

Because Overman Legal Group handles both criminal defense and VPO matters, its attorneys can address situations where criminal and protective-order proceedings overlap.

Expungements

A criminal case can continue affecting someone's life even after the immediate court proceedings have ended.

Overman Legal Group handles expungement matters, helping qualifying individuals determine whether Oklahoma law allows them to clear or limit access to certain criminal records.

An expungement may be particularly valuable when a previous arrest or criminal record interferes with employment, housing, professional licensing, or other opportunities.

Eligibility depends on the circumstances of the case and applicable Oklahoma law.

Municipal Cases

The firm's criminal services extend to municipal cases.

These matters can involve violations prosecuted through local municipal court systems rather than ordinary state district courts.

Although some municipal charges may appear relatively minor, they can still create legal and financial consequences.

Having an attorney familiar with local Oklahoma procedures can help clients understand their options.

Appellate Law

Overman Legal Group also provides appellate representation.

An appeal is different from a trial.

Instead of presenting the entire case again, appellate attorneys generally examine the existing record to determine whether legal errors occurred during earlier proceedings.

Appellate work requires substantial legal research, written briefing, and understanding of procedural rules.

The availability of appellate services makes Overman Legal Group's criminal practice broader than firms focusing only on trial-level representation.

Business Law Services

Although criminal defense is its most prominent area, Overman Legal Group also maintains a significant business law practice.

The firm represents both established companies and people preparing to launch new businesses in Oklahoma.

One important service involves helping entrepreneurs select an appropriate legal structure.

Options may include:

  • Corporations

  • Partnerships

  • Limited liability partnerships

  • Limited liability companies

  • Professional limited liability companies

Choosing the appropriate entity can affect ownership, liability, taxation, governance, and future business transactions.

The firm's attorneys help clients evaluate these options and work toward compliance with relevant Oklahoma requirements.

Business Transactions and Litigation

Overman Legal Group states that it has represented numerous new and established businesses and litigated transactions involving millions of dollars.

This means its commercial service extends beyond simply filing business-formation paperwork.

Companies may need legal assistance involving agreements, disputes, business relationships, compliance, and transactions.

The firm's trial experience can be particularly useful when a commercial disagreement develops into litigation.

Cannabis Law

Cannabis law is one of Overman Legal Group's more distinctive practice areas.

Oklahoma's medical marijuana industry involves extensive legal and regulatory requirements.

Cannabis businesses may need assistance understanding licensing, compliance, corporate structure, contracts, and other regulatory obligations.

Overman Legal Group's experience with both business law and criminal marijuana cases gives the practice an unusually broad perspective on cannabis-related legal issues.

It can potentially advise legitimate businesses on compliance while also representing individuals facing criminal marijuana allegations.

Family Law

Overman Legal Group also advertises family law among its practice areas.

Individual attorney experience at the firm includes family-related matters in addition to criminal defense.

Family disputes can require negotiation, litigation, and careful handling because the legal issues often directly affect personal relationships and long-term family arrangements.

Clients should contact the firm to determine whether their particular family matter falls within its current scope of representation.

Intellectual Property

Intellectual property is another service listed by Overman Legal Group.

Intellectual property can include valuable commercial assets such as trademarks, copyrights, brands, and creative works.

Businesses and entrepreneurs increasingly depend on these assets to distinguish their products and services from competitors.

The availability of intellectual-property assistance complements the firm's broader business practice.

Entertainment Law

Overman Legal Group also lists entertainment law among its legal services.

Entertainment-related legal matters can involve contracts, intellectual property, business arrangements, licensing, and other issues affecting creative professionals and organizations.

The combination of entertainment, business, and intellectual-property law allows the firm to address several overlapping legal issues that can arise in creative industries.

Real Estate and Construction Law

The firm's broader civil practice includes real estate and construction matters.

Overman Legal Group states that its attorneys have conducted millions of dollars' worth of real estate transactions and litigated various construction disputes.

Its services in this area include:

  • Residential real estate matters

  • Commercial real estate

  • Construction defect litigation

  • Bid disputes

  • Zoning issues

  • Landlord-tenant disputes

  • Contract negotiations

This gives the firm capabilities extending considerably beyond criminal defense.

Construction Defect and Contract Disputes

Construction projects frequently involve multiple contractors, property owners, suppliers, and written agreements.

Disputes can arise over defective work, payments, bidding, project obligations, and contractual interpretation.

Overman Legal Group's combination of transactional and litigation experience allows its attorneys to assist both before and after a disagreement develops into a lawsuit.

Trial-Focused Representation

One of the clearest characteristics of Overman Legal Group is its emphasis on trial experience.

The firm states that it has the background necessary to pursue or defend cases without fear of taking them to verdict.

This can be particularly important in criminal cases.

Some matters can be resolved through negotiation, dismissal, reduced charges, or plea agreements. Others may require a jury trial when the prosecution and defense cannot reach an acceptable resolution.

A law firm prepared for both negotiation and trial can evaluate these options based on the specific circumstances rather than approaching every case with the assumption that it must settle.

Attorney Experience

Overman Legal Group's team includes attorneys with varied professional backgrounds.

Partner Tyler Box, for example, previously worked as an Assistant District Attorney in the Cleveland County District Attorney's Office, where his experience included prosecuting domestic violence crimes and working with the Cleveland County Drug Court Program.

That prosecution-side experience can provide insight into how the government evaluates and prepares criminal cases.

Partner Clayburn Curtis has also received recognition for criminal defense work, including the Clarence Darrow Award identified by the firm as an annual recognition for a leading Oklahoma criminal defense attorney.

The combination of former prosecution experience and established defense work is one of the firm's more noteworthy characteristics.

Personalized Legal Representation

Overman Legal Group emphasizes a personalized approach rather than a standardized legal service.

The firm's stated objective is to provide guidance tailored to the client's circumstances so that individuals and businesses understand the choices available to them.

This can be particularly important in criminal defense because the best strategy can vary dramatically depending on the charges, evidence, criminal history, personal circumstances, and client's objectives.

Free Consultation and 24-Hour Availability

Overman Legal Group advertises free consultations.

Its website also states that the firm is open 24 hours.

This accessibility can be particularly useful in criminal defense because arrests and urgent legal problems can occur outside normal office hours.

A consultation allows prospective clients to discuss the circumstances surrounding their case and determine whether the firm is an appropriate fit.

Strengths of Overman Legal Group

The firm's strongest feature is its depth of criminal defense services.

It handles cases ranging from misdemeanors and DUI allegations to drug trafficking, white-collar offenses, federal charges, domestic violence, and murder.

Its services also extend beyond the original criminal proceeding through appellate representation and expungement matters.

Another major advantage is the firm's trial-focused approach.

Additional strengths include:

  • Oklahoma City location

  • Representation throughout Oklahoma

  • Free consultations

  • 24-hour availability

  • Former prosecutor experience

  • Serious felony and homicide defense

  • Federal criminal representation

  • Business law services

  • Cannabis law experience

  • Real estate and construction representation

  • Appellate services

  • Intellectual property and entertainment law capabilities

Potential Limitations

Overman Legal Group offers numerous legal services, but its strongest concentration is clearly criminal defense and litigation.

Clients seeking highly specialized services involving immigration, bankruptcy, tax planning, estate planning, patent prosecution, or other areas not prominently listed by the firm should verify whether representation is available.

Its geographic focus is also predominantly Oklahoma.

Although certain commercial or intellectual-property matters may extend beyond state borders, prospective clients should confirm whether the attorneys can handle their specific jurisdiction and legal issue.

Who Should Consider Overman Legal Group?

Overman Legal Group may be particularly suitable for:

  • People facing serious Oklahoma criminal charges

  • Individuals charged with felonies or misdemeanors

  • DUI defendants

  • People accused of drug possession or trafficking

  • Defendants facing murder or manslaughter allegations

  • Individuals facing federal charges

  • People accused of white-collar offenses

  • Domestic violence defendants

  • Individuals seeking expungement

  • Cannabis entrepreneurs

  • Oklahoma startups and established businesses

  • Property owners involved in construction disputes

  • Businesses involved in real estate or contractual matters

  • Clients needing appellate representation

The firm's combination of criminal and commercial experience may be especially valuable when a case involves overlapping business and criminal issues.

Final Verdict

Overman Legal Group is an Oklahoma City law firm built primarily around aggressive, trial-ready criminal defense while maintaining a surprisingly diverse business and civil practice. The firm handles everything from DUI and misdemeanor allegations to drug trafficking, federal crimes, white-collar cases, domestic violence, homicide, appeals, and expungements.

Its services extend further into business formation and disputes, cannabis law, family matters, intellectual property, entertainment law, and real estate and construction issues. This multidisciplinary approach makes Overman Legal Group relevant not only to criminal defendants but also to Oklahoma entrepreneurs, companies, property owners, and professionals.

One of the firm's strongest characteristics is its courtroom orientation. Overman Legal Group emphasizes that its attorneys are prepared to take cases to verdict rather than automatically treating negotiation as the only available strategy. The presence of attorneys with prosecution-side experience also provides useful insight into how criminal cases may be investigated and presented by the government.

Free consultations, 24-hour availability, personalized representation, and experience handling serious criminal allegations further strengthen the firm's offering.

Overall, for someone searching for an Oklahoma City criminal defense lawyer, Oklahoma felony attorney, DUI lawyer, drug crime attorney, federal criminal defense lawyer, white-collar crime attorney, cannabis lawyer, or Oklahoma business attorney, Overman Legal Group provides a broad legal service with criminal defense and trial advocacy at the center of its practice.

"If you need any kind of legal representation this is the group you want on your side. My only regret is not calling them sooner. It’s a scary thing when you find yourself in the hands of the legal system, but these guys really know their stuff and are confident in what they do. My husband and I had the pleasure of working directly with Clay and Matt. Clay is a heavy hitter, dresses the part and owns the courtroom. The attorneys we were going against were not prepared for level of expertise Clay had to offer. They honestly seemed intimidated by him and rightfully so. Matt was a great addition to our team. He’s an excellent listener, observant and thinks outside the box. He helped break down pieces of our case in ways no one else had thought of. It took over a year, but they got my husband’s felony charge completely dismissed! I will never forget how excited they were for us. They helped us get through the hardest year of our lives and we gained a couple friends through the process. I hope we never need them again, but I know who to call if we ever do. Would 1000% recommend these guys to anyone!"

"We had a legal issue with one of our son and it was a very stressful situation. I can't thank Tyler enough for handling our son's case the way he did. Once Tyler started working on the case my fears of a negative outcome diminished. I could see he was a very competent attorney and that our son was in good hands. In the end it worked out better than we ever thought it would. This was because of Tyler's knowledge of the law, his attention to detail and how much he cares about his clients. I can't say enough about how appreciative I am for how he helped my son. If you need a great attorney, he's your man."

"If I could leave more than 5 stars I would. I spent some time searching legal groups and came across Overman Legal Group. I was hesitant but after my initial phone call and meeting with Benjamin- I knew I made the right decision. Tyler represented me during my case and provided the utmost support. His professionalism and his teams’ dedication allowed me to move stress free while my case was being worked. At the end of a 2 year ordeal, I got the best service and best possible outcome I could ask for. Thank you again to Tyler, Benjamin, and the entire Overman Legal Group for taking the time to represent me!!"

"We had an excellent experience working with Clay. From the very beginning, he was professional, responsive, and extremely knowledgeable. He handled a very serious matter for a member of our family with skill, confidence, and compassion, and we always felt we were in capable hands. He communicated clearly throughout the process and was thoughtful and strategic in his approach. We are incredibly grateful for his guidance and the outcome he helped achieve. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone needing strong, experienced legal representation."

"Just got my felony case dismissed last week! Can’t say enough about this group. I had a civil/ criminal case so naturally I was extremely nervous. Met up with Clay and knew immediately I had made the right choice. Not gonna mention the law firm out of Enid we were up against but it was quite obvious once we got in the court room who was real deal and who wasn’t. I consider Clayburn a friend and am extremely thankful to have his contact in my phone. Worth every dime I spent!!"

"Clay is simply at the top of his game. From the moment we began working with him, his calm, professional, and direct approach immediately inspired confidence. Legal matters can feel overwhelming, but Clay has a way of guiding you through the process with clarity and steady leadership. He explains things clearly, focuses on what matters most, and brings a level of composure that makes a difficult situation far easier to navigate. If you’re facing a complex legal challenge and want someone who is both highly capable and genuinely reassuring to work with, Clay is exactly the attorney you want in your corner."
