"I had an excellent experience working with Attorney Erin of Cohen Law Group on my roof insurance claim. From the initial consultation to the final settlement, their team was knowledgeable, responsive, and professional. They clearly understood the insurance process and handled all communication with the insurance company, which removed a great deal of stress for me. Their persistence and attention to detail made a significant difference in the outcome of my claim. Erin held our hands and guided us through the hearing and that made a world of difference. I truly appreciate their guidance and would highly recommend them to anyone needing assistance with a property insurance claim."

"Attorney Dalya Zalloum and her assistant, Melissa Maturo, at Cohen Law Group were exceptionally effective and efficient in resolving a recent case for my wife and me. The matter involved a claim against our insurance company for damages caused by Hurricane Milton. Given my professional background and multicultural experience, I found working with Dalya and Melissa to be an intellectually stimulating, sociologically inspiring, and humanitarianly rectifying experience. It is a journey I feel compelled to share with potential clients who may be facing similar breach of contract cases with insurance companies. Thank you, Dalya and Melissa, for being so kind, responsive, and patient. I wish you the very best in your continued work."

"Attorney Ryan Smith & Cynthia Diaz handled my claim with State Farm Insurance to replace my roof that had been damaged due to hail storms. They were able to get me a settlement that covered the cost of a new roof and I only had to pay my deductible. Very satisfied with how they kept me updated throughout the process. They were a pleasure to work with and would recommend them to handle cases for friends in future."

"After over a year of fighting with my homeowners insurance company, I was completely frustrated and giving up. They just wouldn’t pay a legitimate Hurricaine claim, and it felt like I was getting nowhere. Someone recommended Cohen Law Group to me and I was assigned Ryan Smith to the case. Ryan changed everything. He took over all the fighting and communication with the insurance company and kept me informed every step of the way. I felt like I finally had a real chance. Ryan was kind, compassionate, confident, and always explained things clearly so I understood what was happening. In the end, we reached the best possible outcome I could have hoped for. I full heartedly believe that would not have happened without him. The insurance companies hope all their denials will wear you down and you’ll give up. If you’re battling your insurance company, don’t give up, don’t try to do it alone, let Ryan help you."

"After watching 6 homes have the roofs replaced after a hail storm, I contacted my insurance company about the damage, I was given an astronomical out-of-pocket amount due to repair my roof. I was actually given the hurricane deductible instead of the hail damage deductible. The Cohen Law Firm did an excellent job handling our home insurance case. Initially contacted by Isa, then followed up with Nicole, which I feel went above and beyond to help me get my roof covered. She professional, knowledgeable, and prompt in response to my questions and concerns. I appreciated and highly recommend the firm for any home insurance–related matters. Thank you."

Frequently Asked Questions

In most cases, since you borrowed money to purchase your home, you agreed to insure it and let the mortgage company be listed as co-insured, additional insured, or similar. The mortgage company protects its interest in your property by making sure that the necessary repairs are made to your property. Typically, in order for you to receive the funds from an insurance proceeds check you will need to send the check over to the mortgage company. Once the mortgage company deposits the check you will need to provide them with proof the work that has been completed on the property. The mortgage company will then release the money. Sometimes this happens in stages, other times it is released all at once. No one is entitled to your insurance proceeds until you grant authority. As an example, you signed your mortgage providing the mortgage company with an interest in your insurance policy. Therefore, they are entitled to be a payee on the check. If you sign a Direction to Pay, or similar document, with a contractor, the insurance company may put that contractor as a payee on the proceeds check. Many contractors include language in their contracts directing the insurance company pay them directly from the proceeds of your claim. They will send their bills and contracts directly to the insurance company for payment. In an ideal situation, the insurance company would send them the check for their invoice directly to them. However, more often than not the contractor is listed along with the insured on the check. The contractor will likely have no issue with signing over the check to you, provided you agree to provide them with a check for their invoice.
